Man drives hay-laden lorry into river after it catches fire in Malappuram

Aliparamaba: In an adventurous act, a man drove the lorry which was caught on fire, into the river averting danger. The incident happened on Tuesday at around 10.20 am. Paral native Abdul Latheef (37) drove the vehicle on fire into the river.
The hay-laden lorry which was running on the Perinthalmanna – Cherpulassery road caught fire near Paral juma masjid. Though the natives tried to put off the fire by pouring water, it couldn’t be controlled. As suggested by those engaged in rescue operations, driver Muhammadali (50) tried to take the lorry into the river. However, when the lorry was 100m distance from the river, he stopped the vehicle as the vehicle was filled with smoke.
Meanwhile, Latheef jumped inside the vehicle and drove it into the river. Half the hay was submerged in water. The locals put out the remaining fire by pouring water.
The hay was brought from Chalavara in Cherpulassery to Manalaya for mulching at elephant foot yam farms.
