Athirappilly (Thrissur): This year, the children belonging to the scheduled tribe families living in the Vazhachal area are super excited about the school reopening. They are waiting impatiently to show off the new umbrellas that they made by themselves.

A training camp named ‘Ooruthalam’ (pulse of the village) was organised under the leadership of Tribal Balasabha and the Kudumbashree unit in the Athirappilly panchayat. The children were given the training to make umbrellas in this camp. Almost 60 children from eight Adivasi settlements in the Vazhachal region took part in the training.

The materials to make the umbrellas were provided by Kudumbashree. The umbrellas were distributed among the children after their work was completed. The umbrella distribution was inaugurated by Panchayat president KK Rijesh. CDS chairperson Natasha Vijayan and Remya Binu were also present.
