21-yr-old girl who fell from lift at RCC succumbs to injuries

Thiruvananthapuram: A young woman who was undergoing treatment after falling from a lift in the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) has succumbed to the injuries. The deceased was identified as Pathanapuram native Najeera (21).
The mishap took place on May 15. The girl's family complained that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the RCC authorities.
Najeera was visiting her mother who was undergoing treatment at the RCC. As some maintenance works were progressing, the top portion of the lift was temporarily closed with wooden boards.
Unaware of the maintenance works, Najeera entered the lift and fell down as the boards moved. She sustained serious injuries on the spine and legs and was admitted to ICU in Thiruvananthapuram medical college.
The employee who left the lift open carelessly was suspended after a preliminary inquiry. The Women's Commission ordered that the RCC authorities should provide compensation to Najeera's family. They have also sought a report on the incident.
