Left supported Suresh Gopi in Thrissur win, alleges Chennithala

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is creating conditions necessary for the BJP to grow in Kerala. He claimed at a press conference that Suresh Gopi’s victory in the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency was possible with the support of the CPM and the Left Democratic Front.
Chennithala said corruption and loot under the state administration enabled the BJP to capture the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. He accused the Chief Minister of implementing in Kerala what Narendra Modi desires, and of facilitating the BJP’s rise through communal polarisation.
He recalled that CPM state secretary M V Govindan had publicly admitted to working with the RSS, and that this statement was later corroborated by former BJP state president K Raman Pillai. Chennithala alleged that the relationship between the CPM and the Jana Sangh dates back several decades.
He further claimed that Pinarayi Vijayan won the 1977 election in Koothuparamba with the support of Jana Sangh and RSS votes, and noted that former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani had inaugurated an election campaign meeting for Shivadas Menon in Palakkad.
Chennithala also recalled that P Sundarayya had resigned from the post of all-India secretary of the party in protest against the CPM’s alliance with the Jana Sangh. He added that the CPM has, at all times, sought the BJP’s support to defeat the Congress, and accused the Chief Minister and the CPM of adopting an approach that provides shelter to communal forces.
