Left parties became weapon of China: Ex-foreign secretary casts serious allegations in new book
New Delhi: Former foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale cast serious allegations against the Left parties in his new book ‘The Long Game: How the Chinese Negotiate with India’. Targeting the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Communist Party of India, Gokhale has alleged that left parties were used by China to topple India-US nuclear deal.
The book claims that under the garb of visiting China for medical treatments or meet ups, Indian leaders of left parties made subtle rapport with them. The book also alleges that China was concerned about India-US nuclear deal and used left leaning media organizations to set the narrative against the deal.
The allegations are based on the happenings in the years 2007 and 2008 under UPA regime. The book has scathing remarks about Dr. Manmohan Singh’s first tenure as Prime Minister. In his book Gokhale has alleged that UPA regime supported Chinese interests of left parties. China operated realizing the influence of left parties in UPA regime, alleges the book. According to the book, it was China's first-of-its-kind internal political intervention.
The former secretary who has 39 years of experience in diplomatic relations is also proficient in Mandarin Chinese. He has worked in China for over a period of 20 years. In the backdrop of such an exposure, Gokhale in his new book has extensively dealt with six major topics about India-China negotiations.
