LDF without candidates in 4 seats, grapples with internal rift

Thiruvananthapuram: Candidate selection in the LDF remains uncertain, with the front yet to announce candidates in four key constituencies. The main reason behind the delay is the sharp differences among allied parties over finalising candidates.
The constituencies still without candidates are Thiruvananthapuram, Kasaragod, Vallikkunnu, and Tanur. The primary dispute lies in seat-sharing among the allies, and discussions on the matter have repeatedly failed to reach a consensus. Thiruvananthapuram was represented by Antony Raju, but with no relief in his conviction, the Janadhipathya Kerala Congress now has to find a new candidate. Tanur, a sitting seat, also remains undecided. Kasaragod and Vallikkunnu are INL seats but the party has not been able to identify candidates here either.

The delay in finalising candidates is affecting grassroots-level election activities. Although election committees are being formed and local conventions are being held, the lack of clarity on candidates is creating confusion among workers. The absence of candidates in conventions is also dampening campaign enthusiasm.
While other fronts have already announced their candidates and are actively campaigning, this slow pace in the LDF camp could turn into a setback in the upcoming elections. There is also growing concern over whether the reluctance of each party to give up its areas of influence will affect the unity of the alliance. Critics argue that instead of prioritising winnable candidates, parties are placing their own interests first, leading to the ongoing disputes.
