Mullaperiyar tree felling row: PC Chacko slams Kerala govt

Kochi: NCP chief PC Chacko has criticised the LDF government in Kerala over the controversial order which permitted Tamil Nadu to cut 15 trees on the premises of Mullaperiyar dam. Taking a dig at the government, PC Chacko stated that the Chief Minister must reveal whether he was aware of the order or not.

"If the order was issued without the knowledge of the forest minister, it is a serious disciplinary violation. A decision must have taken on the same after holding detailed discussions," criticised Chacko.

Reacting to the issue, the NCP leader stated that issuing an order without consulting the minister should not be accepted.

At the same time, the government has landed in trouble following the controversial order. The tree felling order was issued when the court is considering the subjects including the strengthening of the Mullaperiyar dam.

The minister informed that he asked the department to submit a report on the same. AK Saseendran also held talks with the NCP chief at Aluva guest house on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has not initiated any action to fell the trees after obtaining the order which was issued from Chief Wildlife Warden's office at Thiruvananthapuram. On the other day, a ministerial team from Tamil Nadu visited Mullaperiyar.
