Kerala logs 6,546 new COVID cases, 6,934 recoveries

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 6,546 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, informed the health department in a press release. 50 new fatalities were also reported on Saturday.
Along with the fresh COVID deaths, the health department also reported 231 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on revised rules and 186 deaths which were reported till June 18 and not identified as COVID deaths as lacking documents. With this, the death toll climbed to 33,515 in the state.
The test positivity rate was recorded at 9.84 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-1037, Thiruvananthapuram-888, Kollam-774, Kozhikode-754, Thrissur-724, Kottayam-508, Kannur-394, Palakkad-343, Pathanamthitta-267, Wayanad-220, Malappuram-215, Idukki-181, Alappuzha-142 and Kasaragod-99.
A total of 66,486 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 46 wards of 39 local self-government bodies.
2,40,336 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,33,927 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 6,409 people are in hospitals. 332 people were taken to hospitals on Saturday.
Among the 72,876 active Covid cases reported, only 7 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
16 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 6,041 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 448 patients remains unidentified. 41 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 6,934 recoveries were also reported in the state.

49,01,369 people were recovered from the disease so far.
