Labour department inspections uncover over 1,800 violations in Kerala hospital sector

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Labour Commissioner, Arjun Pandian, has revealed that a comprehensive investigation spanning the past four days has exposed a staggering 1,810 violations of labour practices within the state's hospital sector. These violations were uncovered during inspections carried out across 110 hospitals statewide.
Out of a total workforce of 34,235 employees, a concerning 628 were found to be receiving less than the mandated minimum wage.
The inspections, which assessed adherence to legislation such as the Kerala Shops and Commercial Establishments Act and the Minimum Wages Act, also revealed an additional 1,182 infractions.
It is imperative that these violations are rectified within the stipulated timeframe, as per the relevant labour laws. Failure to do so will result in stringent enforcement measures.
