KSDP plans to distribute medicines directly to pharmacies by next year

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Drugs & Pharmaceuticals (KSDP) plans to distribute their medicines directly to pharmacies by next year.
Currently, KSDP provides medicines to various government organizations and other states for 50 per cent less than the market price. By distributing medicines directly to the market, they plan to earn more profit.
Amoxicillin, ampicillin, doxycycline, paracetamol, etc., are the medicines most commonly produced by KSDP. On average, it is estimated that medicines worth Rs 15,000 crore are consumed in Kerala per year, out of which medicines produced by companies in Kerala are only worth Rs 220 crore.
In the current fiscal, KSDP has produced medicines worth more than Rs 100 crore, 60 per cent of which are distributed to government hospitals. KSDP also deliver medicines to Hyderabad and Telangana. The medicines are distributed to various government hospitals through the Medical Services Corporation in Kerala.
Meanwhile, the government have launched a scheme to deliver 92 medicines, including essential ones, directly to Primary Health Centres, Family Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Cooperatives and Private Hospitals.
