Kozhikode travellers can now rent e-scooters 24/7, pricing inside
Kozhikode: Travelling from Kozhikode Railway Station just got easier. Commuters, tourists, and visitors no longer need to wait for buses or worry about overcharging by auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers. A 24-hour “Rent-a-Bike” electric scooter service has been launched at the station.
The service features 30 electric scooters in total. In the initial phase, eight scooters are available. The rental charges are highly competitive: ₹50 per hour, ₹500 for 12 hours, and ₹750 for a full day.
The service was inaugurated on Wednesday by Station Manager C.K. Harish, who took the first ride on an electric scooter.
Following the footsteps of Mangalore and Tirur, Kozhikode station in the Southern Railway Palakkad division has now introduced this facility. The scooters are parked on the fourth platform, where the service office and vehicle parking shed are also set up. The service is operated by Fj Business Innovatives, Perinthalmanna.
How to use the service
To rent a scooter, users must provide:
- Original Aadhaar card
- Original driving license held for a minimum of two years
- ₹1,000 refundable security deposit, which will be returned when the vehicle is handed back
The service follows railway-approved fare rates only. Any violations of traffic rules or misuse of the vehicle will be the renter’s responsibility.
In case of an accident, insurance claims will cover the costs, and daily rental will be charged for the period the vehicle remains under claim processing. All scooters come with full coverage insurance. Vehicles are handed over fully charged, and charging stations are available at the shed. Users needing additional charging en route must bear the cost themselves.
For full-day rentals, chargers are provided, and trips up to 130 km can be completed without recharging. Each rental comes with one free helmet, and additional helmets are available for ₹50.
