13-year-old drowns while bathing in Kozhikode river; another rescued by migrant workers

Kozhikode: A 13-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the Cherupuzha river at Chathamangalam in Kozhikode on Sunday afternoon. Another child who was with him was rescued after both were caught in the river's current.

The deceased has been identified as Sanu Fiyas, son of Shameer from Chathamangalam. The incident occurred at around 2.30 pm near Choyimadam.

The two children had gone to the river to bathe when they were caught in the current. People from Maharashtra residing near the spot noticed the commotion and rushed to their aid. They managed to rescue one of the children, while Sanu was swept away.

The Mukkom Fire and Rescue team was subsequently alerted and launched a search operation. After an extensive search, the rescue personnel recovered Sanu's body from the river.

The body was shifted to the mortuary at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital. The rescued child was also taken to hospital for medical attention.
