Kullu-Manali trip turns tragic as Kottayam student dies in Punjab bus accident

Kottayam: A 22-year-old student from Kaduthuruthy in Kottayam died after a bus carrying students fell from a flyover in Jalandhar, Punjab, on Monday. Josna George, a second-year MBA student at Lovely Professional University, was returning from a trip to Kullu and Manali with a group of friends when the accident occurred.

Josna and her friends had travelled to the hill stations during a week-long university break. The university had been closed following violence during a protest that ended in clashes between students and police.

Josna was among six students returning from the trip. The bus reportedly hit a divider while coming down from a flyover and fell onto the side of a service road. 

Josna was seated near a window at the back of the bus. The impact threw her out of the vehicle, after which the bus fell on her. Three other people were also killed in the accident.

Her father, George, and a relative are travelling to Punjab and are expected to reach Ludhiana on Monday night. Josna is survived by her parents, siblings Jophin and Josephine, and grandparents.
