Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family of D Bindu, who lost her life in the building collapse at Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

Additionally, her son, Navaneeth, will be offered a government job. The decision was made during the cabinet meeting held on Thursday, which also included a recommendation to the Travancore Devaswom Board to appoint him to a suitable position.

Following last week's tragic accident, the government faced allegations of delaying rescue operations, which allegedly contributed to Bindu’s death.

Protestors targeted Health Minister Veena George and the government over the handling of the tragedy. The government has denied these allegations. Later, ministers visited Bindu’s home and offered their condolences and support.

Initially, the family was given Rs 50,000 as immediate assistance from the Kottayam Medical College Fund, and a temporary job was promised to Navaneeth. However, following the family’s appeal for a permanent position, the cabinet has now formalised the decision. The ministers have also assured that Bindu’s daughter will receive the necessary medical treatment.
