Kakkanad: The Assistant Labour Commissioner in Kochi was caught red-handed by the Vigilance team while accepting a bribe.

Ajith Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended during a raid conducted by the State Vigilance team at the office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) in Kakkanad.

The bribery was related to the issuance of certificates for hiring contract workers at a public sector company. Kumar demanded a bribe of Rs 1,000 per person from 20 individuals in exchange for issuing the necessary certificates for temporary employment at BPCL. Acting on a tip-off, the Vigilance team conducted a raid and seized Rs 20,000 from the accused.

Reports suggest that multiple complaints had been filed against Ajith Kumar in the past. The accused is set to be produced in court.

Temporary employment opportunities at public sector companies like BPCL often attract a large number of migrant workers, among whom Ajith Kumar allegedly collected bribes. The Vigilance team conducted the raid based on information about his corrupt practices.
