Differently-abled senior clerk at Kochi civil station wins best govt. employee award

Kochi: Abdul Nissar, a senior clerk at the office of the Resurvey Assistant Director in Kakkanad Civil Station has won the award for the best government employee in the differently-abled category. Though Nissar had lost his ability to hear completely, he impressed his seniors with his exceptional skill in handling complex tasks with ease. The 52-year-old is also very active in programmes for the welfare of hearing-impaired people.

Nissar joined the Revenue Department in 1996 as the Last Grade Servant and was promoted to the clerical post in 2008. In the office, Nissar is in charge of the A2 section which handles the salaries of 65 employees, their provident funds, medical reimbursement, TA bills, contingent bills of the office, salary certificate and salary recovery procedures. 

He was the State General Secretary of the All Kerala Federation of the Deaf (AKAD) for 14 years. It was during in tenure that AKAD received accolades for being the best association in the country.  

Currently, he is a member of the National Executive Committee of the All India Federation of the Deaf and a member of the National Committee of the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled. 

He is also the state president of the Employees Forum Kerala which plays a key role in imparting vocational knowledge, job assistance and training to hearing-impaired state government employees.
