Kerala Varma College polls: SFI candidate wins by 3 votes in recounting, setback for KSU

Thrissur: Following the recounting of votes on Saturday, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) candidate came top in the controversial election for the chairman post of Sree Kerala Varma College. SFI candidate K.S. Anirudhan secured 892 votes, while Kerala Students Union (KSU) candidate S. Sreekuttan came second with 889 votes.
Following much controversy surrounding the outcome of the initial counting, the Kerala High Court had earlier nullified the SFI candidate's election victory. Following this, Justice T.R. Ravi called for recounting.
In a close fight in the college union election, S. Sreekuttan initially won by one vote. However, the SFI leaders demanded recounting and created a ruckus at the campus. Eventually, SFI candidate K.S. Anirudhan was declared the winner with 11 votes in the recounting.
Alleging foul play, the KSU moved the High Court demanding re-polling, leading to the latest recounting of votes.
