Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off four new train services in Kerala, adding three Amrit Bharat Express trains and a new passenger service. Together, these trains improve long-distance and regional rail links across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Designed as affordable, non-AC services, they aim to make travel safer, quicker and more accessible, while supporting tourism, trade, education and daily commuting.

Thiruvananthapuram–Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express (16121/16122)

This weekly service connects Kerala’s capital with Tambaram in Tamil Nadu. It runs via Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchchirappalli and Srirangam.

From Tambaram: Wednesday

Timings:

16122 leaves Thiruvananthapuram Central at 10:40 hrs on Thursday, reaches Tambaram at 23:45 hrs the same day

16121 leaves Tambaram at 17:30 hrs on Wednesday, reaches Thiruvananthapuram Central at 08:00 hrs on Thursday

Stoppages (15): Kulitturai, Nagercoil Town, Valliyur, Tirunelveli, Satur, Kovilpatti, Virudunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchchirappalli, Srirangam, Ariyalur, Vriddhachalam, Villupuram and Chengalpattu

The train is aimed at lower and lower-middle income passengers and strengthens inter-state mobility between Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu.

Thiruvananthapuram North–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express (17041/17042)

This weekly train improves rail connectivity between Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, linking major economic and pilgrimage centres.

Linking the southern tip of Tamil Nadu with coastal Karnataka through Kerala, this weekly service strengthens west coast rail connectivity.

16329 leaves Nagercoil at 11:40 hrs on Tuesday, reaches Mangaluru at 05:00 hrs the next day

Route: Via Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kollam, Chengannur and Kottayam

The service is expected to support tourism, fisheries and small trade along the coast.

Thrissur–Guruvayur Passenger (06315)

A new passenger train has also been introduced to improve local travel.

Inaugural run:

Departs Thrissur at 10:45 hrs

Arrives Guruvayur at 11:21 hrs

The train is expected to benefit daily commuters, students and devotees, while giving a boost to local business and religious tourism.
