Kerala girl found hanging in IIT Kharagpur hostel

Kolkata: The body of Devika Pillai (21), a fourth-year student at IIT Kharagpur, was found hanging in her hostel room on Monday, according to police reports.

Devika, originally from Kerala, was a student in the Department of Biotechnology. Her body was found hanging from the ceiling in the Sarojini Naidu Hostel Hall early in the morning, a senior police officer confirmed.

"The female student was found hanging from the ceiling of the hostel building. Whether it is a case of suicide or something else is yet to be ascertained. We have started an investigation of the death," the IPS officer stated.

The body has been sent to Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The IIT Kharagpur administration reported the incident to the police, who subsequently retrieved the body. An IIT Kharagpur source indicated that further details would be available following the post-mortem report.
