Secretariat fire: Forensic report finds no evidence to prove fire broke out from fan

Thiruvananthapuram: Mathrubhumi News received a copy of the final report of the forensic test held on the fire accident that took place in the Protocol Department of the Secretariat a few months ago. The cause of fire was not found from the samples examined. The report also pointed out that there is no evidence to prove that the fire broke out from the fan in the room.
Two types of tests were performed by the chemistry and physics departments regarding the fire accident. The chemistry department collected about 45 samples and physics department collected 16 samples. The forensic result completely rejects the claims of the government and the police.
Earlier, both the police and the government had claimed that short circuit is the reason for the fire mishap. It was found in a test conducted by the physics department that short circuit was not the cause of fire. Following this, the police came up with a new argument.
Later, the police claimed that the fire broke out from a fan in the Protocol Department and it spread to the files and other places in the room. They also released graphic visuals validating this claim. However, no evidence could be collected in the forensic examination to prove that the fire broke out from the fan. This is the major revelation in the report.
