Kerala mandates electrical safety awareness class in schools following student’s death

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has made it mandatory to conduct a one-hour awareness class on electrical safety in all schools. The programme, jointly developed by the Energy Management Centre and the Electrical Inspectorate, has received approval from the Department of General Education. The decision to implement the initiative was taken during a meeting chaired by Minister K. Krishnankutty.
The campaign comes in the wake of a tragic incident in Thevalakkara, where a student named Mithun lost his life due to an electric shock on the school premises. The awareness sessions aim to prevent such accidents in the future.
Initially, teachers from 100 schools across the state will be trained directly, while others will receive training online. The workshop sessions will be streamed live, allowing participation from all schools.
Selected teachers are required to attend the training sessions without fail. These teachers will then be equipped with the necessary guidelines to conduct the one-hour awareness class in their respective schools, involving both students and fellow teachers.
