Why does Kerala MVD oppose hanging decorations, flowers and loud music in Sabarimala-bound vehicles?

Sabarimala: The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department has intensified its crackdown on vehicles with structural modifications, decorations, and hangings ferrying devotees to Sabarimala. Authorities have launched awareness campaigns to sensitise pilgrims about the dangers posed by such modifications, including the mounting of temple replicas.
Dangerous terrain heightens risk
The route to Sabarimala passes through forest areas known for sharp curves and steep cliffs, making it particularly perilous for vehicles with alterations. Structural changes compromise stability and manoeuvrability, increasing the likelihood of severe accidents.
Modifications deemed punishable offences
Structural modifications, especially those that distract oncoming vehicles, are classified as punishable offences under motor vehicle laws. Decorated vehicles pose significant risks by distracting other drivers, while loud music played in such vehicles has also been identified as a major safety concern.
