Kerala rain alert: 3-day heavy rain and storms expected until Wednesday

Thiruvanantapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Kerala due to the influence of a cyclone over the southeast Arabian Sea and the adjoining north Kerala coast. The heavy rain is expected to continue until Wednesday.

According to the IMD, the state is experiencing rain and strong winds as a result of the weather system’s influence. Wind speeds are likely to range between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts today.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts today. A yellow alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, and Wayanad districts on Monday; Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki on Tuesday; and Ernakulam and Idukki on Wednesday.

The IMD classifies heavy rainfall as precipitation measuring between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.
