Kerala wants control over school selection, curriculum under PM-SHRI

New Delhi: Kerala is preparing to hold ministerial and official-level talks with the Centre over the implementation of the PM-SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) scheme in the state. The discussions are expected to focus on Kerala's concerns over how the programme will be implemented.

The state government wants full authority to select the schools that will be included under the scheme. It is also seeking freedom to decide the curriculum followed in these schools. Kerala had earlier written to the Centre raising these demands but has not received a response.

The PM-SHRI scheme aims to develop selected schools as model institutions with improved infrastructure and learning facilities, while incorporating elements of the National Education Policy. Kerala's government is expected to decide on the talks after receiving the report of a cabinet sub-committee examining the issue.
