Newborn baby's body found in hospital toilet in Kochi; police initiate probe

Kochi: The police have initiated a probe after finding the dead body of a new born baby in a toilet of a private hospital here. The body was found when cleaning staff entered the toilet for cleaning.

The staff informed the hospital administration and it was found in their preliminary investigation that the baby was reportedly delivered by a 17-year-old girl who was admitted in the hospital the previous day.

However, it is learned that the hospital authorities were unaware that the girl was pregnant. Reportedly, the authorities maintained that they came to know about the matter when cleaning staff informed about the death of the baby.

Meanwhile, no conclusive details are available about the incident. The girl hailing from Ernakulam came to the hospital for scanning with her mother. The police officials have been questioning the mother and hospital authorities. They have registered a POCSO case.
