No more middlemen: MVD's new Aadhaar-based system simplifies vehicle services

Thiruvananthapuram: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has introduced a new system aimed at streamlining vehicle-related services, allowing vehicle owners to complete transactions with a single click and eliminating the need for intermediaries. This system will be activated in March, and it requires vehicle owners to link their Aadhaar with their vehicle records. Once linked, there will be no need to visit MVD offices or rely on intermediaries to access services.

This initiative is part of the government's effort to expand online services, where applicants can complete tasks without having to appear in person. In preparation for the rollout, the process of linking Aadhaar with vehicle records has already begun. Vehicle owners can link their Aadhaar through e-Seva Kendras and Akshaya Centers, with special counters set up in MVD offices until February 28 for this purpose.

Once Aadhaar is linked, vehicle owners will enjoy greater convenience in accessing a wide range of services. The online application process will be simplified, and when buying or selling a vehicle, there will be no need to visit the office with paperwork. Applications can be completed using a one-time password (OTP) sent to the mobile number linked to the owner's Aadhaar.

Services such as permit issuance, registration renewal, tax payment, and finance termination will all be available online, further reducing the need for physical visits to MVD offices. The new system ensures that only the rightful owner can submit applications, as all submissions will be verified through the mobile number linked to the owner's Aadhaar. This will also help prevent fraudulent transfers of vehicle ownership. The integration of Aadhaar ensures the authenticity of every application and reduces the chances of benami purchases. Notifications will be sent to the vehicle owner's mobile phone, alerting them about fines.

In addition, the system is designed to curb the role of intermediaries, who have often exploited the complexities of the process. By simplifying the online application procedure, the new system will allow vehicle owners to complete all necessary tasks without seeking help from middlemen or dealing with corrupt officials.
