Kodassery (Thrissur): A 26-year-old man from Maramcode died after suffering chest pain while travelling on a train, with his family blaming railway negligence for the tragedy.

The deceased, Sreejith, son of Subran and Usha was an Ayurvedic physiotherapist working in Hyderabad. He was travelling home on Sunday night when he developed severe chest pain and seizures as the train reached Shoranur around 11.30 p.m.

Fellow passengers, including a doctor, immediately alerted the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and railway officials to arrange an ambulance. Sreejith’s brother, Sreejesh, also contacted the railway station, requesting medical help. The TTE reportedly told passengers that an ambulance had been arranged at Mulankunnathukavu station.

Believing help would be available, Sreejith continued on the train past Vadakkencherry, but when it reached Mulankunnathukavu, the ambulance arrived nearly 30 minutes late and reportedly lacked oxygen and basic medical facilities. Despite the doctor on board administering CPR, Sreejith could not be revived.

He was declared dead about 20 minutes before reaching the hospital, according to the attending doctor. His brother arrived at the hospital only minutes later.

Family members allege that railway authorities failed to act promptly, leading to his death. Local leader PA Sathish condemned the railway’s inaction and said he would file a complaint with the district collector and protest in front of the railway office.

The Thrissur Railway Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
