Kerala local body election: R Sreelekha, Padmini Thomas and VV Rajesh among BJP’s first-phase candidates in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP has released its first-phase candidate list for the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation elections. The 67 candidates in the first phase were announced by BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The party is fielding prominent leaders, including former DGP R Sreelekha, along with other senior figures, to strengthen its electoral campaign. Seats have also been allotted to leaders who joined BJP after leaving Congress.
Former DGP R Sreelekha will contest from Shasthamcotta. Padmini Thomas, a sportswoman who won two medals at the Asian Games and former Sports Council president, will contest from Palayam, while BJP state secretary V V Rajesh will seek public support from Kodunganur. In Kazhakkoottam, Anil Kazhakkoottam and T S Anilkumar are contesting.
Former Congress members K Maheshwaran Nair and Thampanoor Satish are also in the fray. Most sitting councillors will contest again. Maheshwaran Nair will seek votes from Punnakkamukal. In the last local body elections, BJP won 35 seats in the capital.
