Kerala completes five lakh houses under LIFE Mission, says CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF government has completed the construction of five lakh houses under the LIFE Mission, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Monday, describing it as a significant milestone in making Kerala free of homelessness.
In a Facebook post, Vijayan highlighted that the LIFE Mission, launched in 2016, was designed to provide secure homes to homeless families across the state. The Chief Minister said a state-level event marking the achievement will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on February 24.
According to Vijayan, the government has spent approximately ₹20,831.60 crore on the programme as of February 2026. Under the scheme, ordinary families receive financial support of ₹4 lakh per house, while Scheduled Tribe families are provided ₹6 lakh for house construction.
Describing the programme as a model for efficiency and inclusiveness, the Chief Minister emphasised that the LIFE Mission represents a cornerstone of the LDF government’s development agenda. He called for collective participation, urging citizens to contribute towards building a “New Kerala” where everyone can live with happiness and dignity.
The LIFE Mission is regarded as one of the flagship welfare initiatives of the LDF government and is recognised as a major intervention in Kerala’s housing sector, contributing significantly to social equity and homelessness eradication.
