Kerala's Left must change course to avoid Bengal-Tripura-like collapse: Geevarghese Mar Coorilos

Thiruvalla: Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, the former Metropolitan of the Niranam Diocese of the Malankara Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church, issued a stark warning to Kerala's Left Front via Facebook on Thursday. He noted that if the Left Front does not heed the continuous backlash from the people, they risk facing the same fate as their counterparts in Bengal and Tripura.
According to Coorilos, a significant factor in the Left's poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections in Kerala is the prevailing strong anti-incumbency sentiment. “No matter how much the CPM tries to deny it, it is a reality. Failures in economic policies, lack of discipline, corruption, very poor policing policies, media witch-hunting, corruption in cooperative banks, moves that neglected the poor, including the suspension of pensions, the violent politics of the SFI, intolerance towards criticism, attempts to excessively appease religious and communal organisations, right-leaning policies, and many other reasons contributed to this defeat,” his post read.
“More than the BJP, the Left's campaign targeted the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, who bravely fought against fascism, which in turn created doubts among secular believers. Another major reason is the significant drop in the quality of the second Pinarayi government compared to the first. The performance of the majority of the ministers is pathetic. If arrogance and corruption continue, the Left will face even greater setbacks... The leadership’s promise to correct the course is welcome,” he added.
Coorilos, known for openly expressing his political stances and pro-Left activities, emphasised that the problem is deep-rooted and requires equally deep solutions. “The Left must remain on the Left,” he concluded.
