Kerala Governor Arlekar visits injured MLA Uma Thomas, wishes her speedy recovery | VIDEO

Kochi: Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar met with Congress MLA Uma Thomas, who was injured in a fall at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kaloor, Kochi on December 29, 2024. The MLA had fallen from the VIP gallery while attending an event, sustaining a head injury.

During his visit to Uma Thomas at Renai Medicity in Kochi, Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar inquired about her health and expressed his well wishes. “She (Uma Thomas) is fine. The doctors are doing all the things and they are very happy about her progress. I pray to God for her speedy recovery,” said Arlekar.

MLA Uma Thomas, who fell from the VIP gallery during the Mridanga Naadam, Bharatanatyam Programme, was immediately rushed to Renai Medicity for treatment. She suffered a head injury in the incident. The fall has raised concerns about the safety measures at public events, particularly when VIPs are involved, underscoring the need for improved security protocols.

Following the incident, Congress leader Depthy Mary Varghese criticised the security arrangements, blaming authorities for the lapse. She said, “This is a security failure from the side of the police and Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA). It's a real security lapse from the side of the authorities and also from the side of the police authorities. Even the minister is participating in this program. So while it's a VIP program, there should be a security check from the side of the police.”

Kerala Minister P Rajeev also spoke on the matter, sharing that experts from various departments would collaborate with doctors at Renai Medicity to decide on the next course of action. “She is under treatment in the ICU. I have discussed this with the CM and the health minister and they will send the medical team. Experts from different departments will come and thereafter they will consult with the doctors here and decide what should be done,” said Rajeev.
