‘CM, please build us a house; I'll pay you back when I grow up’: Kerala girl’s heartfelt plea

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: A six-year-old girl from Vizhinjam has touched hearts after appealing to the Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan for a safe home for her family.

Promising to repay the money when she grows up and completes her education, young Ruwania made her request through a video shared on social media.

A student of Vizhinjam LP School, Ruwania, says her family lives in an old, unsafe house and that she is often unable to sleep at night when it rains because of fear.

"Chief Minister, please build us a new house so we can sleep safely. I will give the money back when I grow up," she said in the emotional video.

Ruwania's family faces severe hardship. The family of four lives in a tiny sheet-roofed room built on a 2.5-cent plot of land that was purchased with the help of teachers. The house lacks secure doors and proper sanitation facilities. According to her mother, the roof leaks heavily during rain, while snakes, insects and other creatures frequently enter the house, making daily life difficult and frightening.

The family's only source of income is the modest earnings of Ruwania's father, an auto-rickshaw driver. Despite submitting multiple applications seeking housing assistance, they say no concrete action has been taken so far.

The video, in which the six-year-old promises to study hard and repay the cost of the house in the future, has now gained widespread attention on social media, drawing sympathy and support from many viewers.
