Kerala Food Safety department working on mobile app showing hygienic restaurants

Kozhikode: Kerala Food Safety department is working on a project to highlight hygienic hotels and restaurants that provide good food.
They are developing a mobile application to understand the cleanliness and standard of hotels through. The photos of the restaurant, its dining area and its kitchen will be displayed through the mobile app. The details of the hotel’s license will also be displayed. VR Vinod IAS, Commissioner of Food Safety, said that the application will not have an online purchase option.
The mobile application that is being prepared by the e-health portal of the Department of Health and Family Welfare will show the best restaurants as per their star ratings.
The Hygiene Rating scheme implemented by the central government to ensure the hygiene of eateries is progressing in Kerala as well. So far, nearly 500 hotels have received recognition and certificates for the same. These hotels will be included in the application first.
The state has borne the expense of conducting inspections at hotels and handing over accreditations following that. If any of the hotels need this certification, they can pay the fees, undergo inspection and earn the certificate.
