Assembly polls: Kerala LoP and CM face V D Satheesan retains Paravur seat

Counting of votes for the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections on Monday, May 4, confirmed V.D. Satheesan’s win in Paravur constituency in Ernakulam district. The United Democratic Front (UDF) leader, also Leader of the Opposition and the alliance’s chief ministerial face, retained the seat in a closely followed contest.
He polled 78,658 votes and won by a margin of 20,600.
E.T. Taison of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), a sitting MLA from Kaipamangalam known locally as Tyson Master, finished with 58,058 votes after a campaign centred on governance and welfare delivery.
Valsala Prasannakumar, contesting on a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ticket after recently joining the BJP, secured 20,377 votes.
The constituency saw sustained grassroots campaigning from all three candidates across panchayats and local wards through the campaign period.
Outcome underlines UDF position in constituency
The result places Satheesan ahead in Paravur, a seat he has represented since 2001 and where he continues as a key UDF figure in central Kerala politics.
It comes against the backdrop of his leadership role in the UDF and his position as Opposition Leader during a period marked by a 10-year LDF tenure in the state.
Paravur remained among the closely tracked constituencies as counting progressed across Kerala.
