Thrissur, Kerala: The Kerala Higher Education Department has submitted the file for the appointment of college teachers to the cabinet, raising concerns among candidates.

While appointments are being made to 138 new posts, 191 posts are being cancelled, meaning that only 48 are genuinely new, with the remaining 90 requiring redeployment.

Appointments are planned for 138 posts, but 191 existing posts are set to be cancelled. This effectively leaves only 48 truly new positions, while around 90 posts will involve redeployment rather than fresh recruitment.

The term of the Assistant Professor listed for several subjects in government colleges, effective from 2022-23, has already expired, with others set to end soon. If the cabinet approves the appointments, even first-rank holders in Philosophy, Sociology, Islamic History, Urdu and other subjects may be left out.

Candidates say the government is proceeding with post cancellations without offering solutions. They allege that decisions are being made at the secretary level, without academic studies or recommendations from expert committees, and are based on the workloads of the expired three-year degree course.

Reallocation is being done despite the implementation of the four-year degree, which no longer follows the old workload.

“Even the first-ranked candidates have not been appointed in many subjects. The government had assured, even in the assembly, that no existing posts would be cancelled. I fear all that will be wasted,” said Srinivasan Ramachandran, a rank holder in Islamic History.
