Thiruvananthapuram: VD Satheesan, the Chief Minister-designate, visited former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition-designate Pinarayi Vijayan at his rented residence in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. Satheesan was warmly received by Pinarayi Vijayan and his family.
Satheesan had earlier informed the media that he would call on Pinarayi at his residence. He arrived at around 12 noon after visiting the house of Adoor Prakash in Sasthamangalam.
Pinarayi Vijayan, accompanied by his wife, daughter and other family members, welcomed Satheesan. CPM leaders including V.K. Prasanth, Kadakampally Surendran and Aanavoor Nagappan were also present during the visit.
The CPM had earlier appointed Pinarayi Vijayan as the Leader of the Opposition following the AICC’s announcement naming Satheesan as the next Chief Minister. The decision was taken at a CPM state committee meeting.
For the past five years, Satheesan served as the Leader of the Opposition while Pinarayi Vijayan held office as Chief Minister in the Assembly. Their roles will now be reversed, with Satheesan set to become Chief Minister and Pinarayi assuming the role of Leader of the Opposition.
