Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan publicly criticised MLA P. V. Anvar, asserting that the Nilambur legislator does not truly represent leftist ideals as he had a past with the Congress party.

During the press conference held on Saturday, Vijayan defended his political secretary, P. Sasi, stating that he is performing exemplary work in his role.

"P. Sasi is a member of the CPM State committee, and according to party directives, he is performing outstandingly as my Political Secretary. There’s nothing wrong with his work, and anyone who claims otherwise will be dismissed with contempt. No investigation is necessary in his case," Vijayan stated.

He clarified that Sasi’s role isn’t to accept complaints from Anvar or others but to initiate legal action. "If any other approach is taken, no one can remain in that position," he added.

Vijayan criticized Anvar for his past ties to the Congress party, alleging that Anvar had initially agreed to meet him after his press conference but instead held another press conference before their meeting.

"Is this what a public servant should do? We only met for five minutes. No one can assist me illegally; only those who seek such help would go that route. Anvar's background is not leftist; it aligns more closely with Congress," he remarked.

He pointed out that the standard procedure is to investigate complaints and take appropriate action. Anvar had publicly discussed the issue for several days before filing a complaint, prompting the appointment of a special team led by the State police chief. The investigation is currently ongoing, and the SP has been suspended pending further inquiries. Vijayan stressed that the focus should be on the allegations and evidence, not just on the accused.

"If Anvar truly understood his responsibilities as a party member and a communist MLA, he would have brought this issue to the party's attention and to me as Chief Minister first," Vijayan added.
