Free internet for BPL families; K-FON project to be completed by July

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister Dr Thomas Isaac informed that the K-FON project to ensure internet connectivity to all households and offices in the state will be completed very soon. The minister added that the network operating centres, 14 district PoPs (point of presence) and 600 offices related to this will be completed by February.
The complete K-FON project will finish by July. Families belonging to BPL categories will be provided free internet connection in K-FON project. 30,000 government offices in the state will be linked through high-speed intranet service. The speed of internet will be between 10 MBps to 1 GBps.
The minister also assured that the internet highway in the state will not be monopolised by any company. All service providers will be able to utilise the K-FON internet service. K-FON intends to provide high quality internet at affordable rate, he added.
Development of artificial intelligence will be possible through the K-FON project. It will also ensure digital services in small scale industries, industrial and business sectors including tourism and e-commerce sectors. Rs 166 crore is allocated for the capital investment of K-FON project, the minister said.
