Ghulam Nabi Azad likely to represent Kerala in RS

New Delhi: Congress is considering to field senior leader Gulam Nabi Azad to the Rajya Sabha seat from Kerala. The party is mulling the proposal as the leader’s term in Rajya Sabha will end on February 15.
Congress is hoping to win the RS seat from Kerala. A final decision regarding this will be taken after holding talks with KPCC.
Ghulam Nabi Azad is the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha. At present, he represents Jammu and Kashmir in Rajya Sabha.
The congress leader is forced to contest from another seat as the legislative assembly in Jammu and Kashmir stands dissolved after the centre declared the state as a union territory. Following this, the High Command has been planning to take him as a representative of another state in Rajya Sabha.
Three Rajya Sabha seats of Kerala will fall vacant on April 21. cThe High Command examined that Congress will win at least one seat among the three.
A group of the party has demanded to take Azad to Rajya Sabha as he is the opposition leader.
Earlier, a group of leaders who focused on corrective measures has sent a letter to the High Command demanding a complete revamp of the party. Ghulam Nabi Azad is one among these leaders.cHence, there is some dispute inside the High Command over taking Azad into Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, many members have objected in giving another opportunity to Azad.
Ghulam Nabi Azad has been a member of the parliament consecutively since 1980. He served as Lok Sabha MP twice and Rajya Sabha MP for five times.
At the same time, a group of Congress has been demanding to give the post of Rajya Sabha Opposition leader to Mallikarjun Kharge.
According to reports, as Vayalar Ravi's term in RS will end in April, Congress is planning to field Azad from this seat.
