Theatres to open soon in Kerala; distributors warn theatre owners to clear arrears

Thiruvananthapuram: The cinema theatres in the state will be opened soon. A meeting of the theatre owners held at Kochi on Tuesday decided to reopen the theatres.

Most of the members, at the meeting, opined that closure of the theatres for more days will not benefit anyone.

One-week's time is necessary to clean the theatres which are shut since March 2020.

The sources close to theatre owners’ association hinted that the theatres will reopen with the release of Vijay starrer ‘Master’ on January 13.

Meanwhile, the association of film distributors have taken a firm stand against the theatre owners. They declared that no new films will be distributed unless the theatre owners clear the arrears. Film Chamber will discuss the issue in the meeting on Wednesday, sources hinted.

The government has granted permission to reopen theatres in the state from January 5. Theatres will resume operation strictly abiding by the COVID-19 protocol.
