Clashes erupt between CPI, CPM during election campaign in TVM

Thiruvananthapuram: A violent clash erupted between CPM and CPI during the election campaign at Perungoor here on Thursday night. According to reports, the activists engaged in the dispute after CPI candidate was not allowed to get in the vehicle of Karakulam LDF district division candidate.
The incident took place around 7 pm on Thursday at Perungoor in Vembayam panchayat where CPM and CPI are at the forefront of the election battle.
CPI candidate in Perungoor ward, Sajeev S Nair, was not allowed to get into the election campaign vehicle of Adv KV Sreekanth who is contesting as LDF candidate in Karanakulam district division. Following this, a clash erupted as members of both parties in the front attacked each other.
CPI activists blocked Sreekanth’s vehicle demanding to take their candidate in it.
Following this, CPM activists raised slogans favouring CPM candidate Farooq who is contesting from Perungoor ward. Responding to this, CPI activists raised slogans for their candidate Sajeev.
A clash erupted between both groups following this demonstration and the violence continued for over 15 minutes in the area.
A huge police force rushed to the spot and took the situation under control. The police force is camping here to avert political violence.
