Nepal Tragedy: Praveen's aged parents told of death news only later

Thiruvananthapuram: The death of Praveen Nair and family who died in a hotel room in Nepal left a whole village in agony. Having concern for Praveen’s aged parents, the natives blocked the village road at Chenkottukonam here. Praveen, wife Saranya and their three children Sreebhadra, Aarcha and Abhinav were chocked to death due to gas leak at a hotel room in Nepal on Tuesday.
When the media reported the news, darkness loomed over the house which was always happy with the three innocent children. Relatives and natives struggled to conceal the shocking news from Praveen’s parents.
They blocked the road restricting media from visiting the house. Worried over the aged parents, they disconnected the cable connection to block them from coming to know about the death of their son and family from news channels.
People around Praveen’s parents had no idea on how to reveal the tragic news to them.
Though Praveen and family’s death was confirmed in the morning, his parents were informed only in the evening. At first, his father Krishnan Nair was informed. When everyone expected that he will break down, he listened the shocking news with an abrupt silence. He also wanted to hide the news from his wife who is a patient.
Praveen’s parents and sister Praseeda have been residing in this house at Chenkottukonam. When the tragic death made headlines on TV channels, Praveen’s classmate Shyam and his friends disconnected the cable TV connection to the house. When the news spread like wildfire in the village, Praveen’s house named ‘Rohini Bhavanam’, was waiting for the arrival of Praveen and Saranya with the children.
Relatives and neighbours decided to hide the news from Praveen’s parents as both are suffering from ailments.
When media and natives started to gather in front of Praveen’s house, a relative informed Praveen’s father that his son and family met with an accident in Nepal. Finally, by evening the truth was disclosed to the aged father.
Praveen’s mother Prasanna Kumari was informed a few minutes before Minister Kadakampally visited their house.
