Kattappana double murder: Skeletal remains exhumed, evidence collection progresses

Kattappana: In an important development to Kattappana double murder case, the team of cops and forensic experts on Sunday exhumed skeletal remains, purportedly of deceased Vijayan. The remains were exhumed by digging open the floor of the rented house in Kanchiyar, where Nitheesh and another co-accused claimed to have buried the body.
Vijayan was allegedly killed by hitting him with a hammer. Vijayan’s son Vishnu and his wife Suma were also allegedly involved in the act.
Earlier today, the officials took Nitheesh to the rented house for evidence collection, from where the hammer used for the killing of Vijayan was recovered. The exhumation process commenced as soon as the forensic surgeon arrived at the scene.
As per Nitheesh’s confessions, Vijayan was killed inside the rented house in Kanchiyar in August 2023. It is mentioned in the FIR that Vijayan was pushed onto the floor and was killed in the hall using a hammer. Later, the dead body was buried under the ground with the help of Vishnu and Suma.
Prior to the above murder, a four-day-old baby born to Nitheesh and Vishnu was brutally killed in July 2016. The accused said they killed the baby for saving their honour, by choking the little one to death using a pillow. While Nitheesh is the prime accused in the particular case, Vijayan and Vishnu are second and third accused respectively.
The police will be soon conducting evidence collection at the house in Sagar Junction where the baby was allegedly killed and buried in a cattle shed on the premises.
Efficient and effective investigation by the officials proved crucial in cracking the highly complicated case.
