Karuvatta murder: Permission granted to interrogate girl; bail granted to all three accused boys

Cherthala: Bail has been granted to all three boys accused in the Karuvatta murder case. The Karuvatta murder case involves the alleged killing of 67-year-old Sivankutty Chettiyar inside a rented house in Karuvatta, Alappuzha district, Kerala. The Juvenile Justice Board issued the order during its sitting after considering their bail applications. The investigation team has also been granted permission to interrogate the girl accused in the case.

All three boys will be released into the custody of their parents. They are expected to be released from the Mayithara Observation Home on Tuesday. The board has directed that procedures, including counselling, should continue.

The bail was granted as more than 40 days have passed since their arrest and the interrogation and collection of evidence have been completed. A case involving only minors as accused is considered rare in legal history.

The prosecution and the investigation team maintained that the girl’s interrogation was necessary, alleging that she was also involved in planning the murder, among other aspects of the case. Permission was granted after prolonged arguments.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Manu Kallampally appeared for the prosecution.

As the interrogation will be conducted confidentially, no specific time has been mentioned for it.
