11-year-old killed, several injured as school bus overturns in Kannur | VIDEO

Kannur: In a tragic incident, a 11-year-old girl was killed and several others injured when a school bus overturned in Valakkai, Kannur, on Wednesday evening.

According to the latest reports, 14 children were injured in the accident. The deceased has been identified as Nedhya S Rajesh, a fifth-grade student.

The incident happened near the Valakkai Bridge when the bus lost control while moving from a service road onto the state highway. The vehicle flipped off the slightly elevated connecting road and fell onto the highway.

Fifteen students were on board the bus at the time of the accident. The deceased student was thrown out of the bus and trapped underneath it. Although she was rushed to the hospital, she later succumbed to her injuries.

The injured students were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The bus belonged to Chinmaya School and was transporting students home after school hours.

Residents in the area quickly responded, launching rescue efforts immediately after the crash. 

Residents claim that the unscientific design of the road for the accident, citing frequent mishaps in the area.
