Backdoor appointment: Congress workers stage protest against MK Raghavan MP in Kannur

Kannur: Congress workers staged a protest on Saturday by denying entry to M.K. Raghavan MP at a college here, accusing him of corruption in an appointment at the Co-operative Arts and Science College, Madayi. The administrative committee's alleged attempt to appoint a relative of a CPM member sparked widespread unrest.

The college operates under the Payyanur Cooperative Society, chaired by Raghavan. Activists stopped Raghavan as he approached the venue of the interview. Later, police intervened to disperse the protesters and restore order.

Protesters accused the MP of facilitating a backdoor appointment for a Kunhimangalam native and CPM member, disregarding objections raised by Congress workers in the Kalliasseri-Payyanur constituency.

Congress members claim that around 300 workers from Kunhimangalam had signed a letter opposing the move. The letter was submitted to leaders at various levels, including the DCC, KPCC, and AICC. Despite this, they allege the MP ignored the objections and pushed forward with the appointment.

The protesters warned that the party is undermining its own future and urged people to recognise this double standard. They criticised the leadership for ignoring the party and its workers while pursuing its own interests.
