Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary MV Govindan on Tuesday slammed BJP leaders, including union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and party president JP Nadda over their statements concerning the Kalamassery blast.

“It is a serious matter that certain forces tried to paint a communal colour on this incident with an aim to cause violence in Kerala. Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s response was unbecoming of a minister,” he said.

“RSS and BJP have no role in forming the current Kerala. Their agenda is to create communal riots in the state,” he added.

Govindan also justified his statement which was given immediately after the blast news was broken. He had said that the blast could be seen as a move to divert attention from Kerala’s support for the Palestinian cause. This had invited criticism from Congress leaders. The party even filed a case against the CPM leader.

Explaining his position, Govindan said there was nothing wrong with what he said. He also refused news reports that CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury had corrected him. “Yechury’s comment was about the party's position on the Palestine issue. Not the Kalamassery blast,” he said.
