K Surendran appointed BJP state president

New Delhi:  K Surendran has been appointed as the BJP state president. This was announced by BJP national president J P Nadda on Saturday. The post of BJP president in Kerala was remaining vacant for a very long time ever since P S Sreedharan Pillai was made Mizoram Governor.

K Surendran was serving as BJP state general secretary. The appointment comes at a crucial time when the state is set to go for the LSG polls soon.

Surendran was born at Ulliyeri in 1970 as son of Kunhiraman and Kalyani.  While in school he was active in ABVP activities and finished his degree in chemistry from Guruvayoorapan college in Kozhikode. After becoming the state president of Yuva Morcha, Surendran started grabbing attention in Kerala politics.

He had actively taken part in Kovalam Palace protest, protest against corruption at Kerala University assistant grade appointment, Total 4U cheating scam, Malabar Cements bribery case, solar case and many more. After making his presence in BJP, he was appointed general secretary of the party.  He contested the Lok Sabha election from the Kasaragod constituency twice and also to the Assembly elections twice from Manjeshwaram. During the last Assembly polls from Manjeshwaram, he lost by just 89 votes.

Surendran was also jailed for 22 days during the Sabarimala women entry protests. In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, he contested from Pathanamthitta and gained over 3 lakh votes. In the by-elections in Konni that was held after 6 months, he secured 40,000 votes.
