Kozhikode: Former Kerala CM and veteran Congress leader K Karunakaran’s younger brother, Damodara Marar, disclosed that he too had received invitation to join the BJP before his niece, Padmaja, made her move. Speaking to 'Mathrubhumi', Marar revealed that an attempt was made to woo him through a close acquaintance in the police department.

According to Marar, promises were made, including the offer of a prominent position within the party. However, at the age of 102, he asserted that he had no need for promises and was focused solely on his final journey. Marar expressed disappointment upon learning about Padmaja's decision, stating that Karunakaran would never have approved.

Emphasizing the importance of loyalty to the Congress movement and its ideals, Marar recalled the time he first met Gandhiji, holding his brother’s hand. While acknowledging that both Padmaja and Muralidharan contact him from time to time, he clarified that they do not engage in political discussions.

Despite his disappointment with Padmaja's political move, Marar recognized it as her choice. However, he couldn't help but express his disapproval, stating that he never sought to exploit his familial or political connections for personal gain. Marar also reminisced about his time as an ASI in Kannur when his brother Karunakaran served as Home Minister, highlighting their shared history of public service.
