Kottayam: Following the UDF’s victory in the elections, Chandy Oommen, who was re-elected from Puthuppally, launched a sharp attack on the Left government. He said that apart from inaugurating the Kochi Metro in the third month after assuming power, Pinarayi Vijayan had not implemented any other development projects in Kerala, and that the people’s protest against this was reflected in the election results.

He also criticised the government’s stance against devotees, including the Sabarimala issue. People would not refrain from voting against a government that, he alleged, stood complicit in looting Lord Ayyappa’s gold. If a similar issue comes up at the Puthuppally church or its surroundings, he asked how the local people would react, and said that a similar response was seen across Kerala in matters concerning Lord Ayyappa, who is revered statewide.

Chandy Oommen pointed out that this election victory is also a response to the political persecution against Oommen Chandy. Whether in power or in opposition, the Left front had unnecessarily targeted him. This election, he said, has delivered justice to Oommen Chandy. “That is why we are going to build his tomb. We had been waiting for two and a half years without building it,” he added.
